Mark Scheepens, lead and coach for design teams

For over 12 years I’ve worked as a UX design manager and creative lead of design teams at different companies. With a background in Interaction Design and Front-end development I easily bridge the gaps between design and development.

Educated in business, computer science and design I can never hold back optimising teamprocesses of design and scrum teams.

The last couple of years I’ve build, optimized and worked with design teams from different companies, like:

A.S.R. & Ditzo insurance

At A.S.R. insurance and their subbrands like Ditzo, I’ve started and scaled the new inhouse digital designteam. We began with 2 designers and have grown to 20 designers and 3 dedicated researchers within 4 years.

In that period I’ve transformed the way of working from fully outsourced through agencies to a fully inhouse & freelance staff. I’ve designed the organisation, set up processes, recruited designers and researchers, advocated within the company for more UX and got more departments using the design services.

To accomplish this, I’ve facilitated design sprints, strategic vision concepts for multiple portals en the overarching website and service blueprinting for better customer contact experiences.

Efteling amusement park

As a design lead at Efteling amusement park, we worked in the office that’s also the backdrop for the Ravelijn show. There, we designed and build the complete new websites for the holiday parks, hotel and the amusement park itself.

Together with the agency that was hired, we created the first on site digital team for Efteling to work on this big transformation.
I led a base team of 2 designers and then some concept teams of 4 designers, front-enders for some bigger creative stuff.

Schiphol airport

At Schiphol airport’s digital team, I was the UX strategist and later area lead for the custom dashboarding software we developed for the directors of passenger and aircraft flow on the Schiphol premisses.

Our challenge was to create the most actionable dashboards with loads of realtime data from 3D camera’s, flight itineraries and baggage systems to provide insights that were previously unable. Researching the data, machine learning and UX research for actionability were core to this software.

Today, these dashboards have become core to the new operations room where all directors from not only Schiphol, but also customs and military colleagues, watch the current and upcoming situation to be able to take fast and timely actions.
And just like in the space movies, our dashboards are shown in aa big room on the big screen for everyone to see.
